Biography

Alex Alani was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana in the United States. In May 2024, Alex completed a Bachelor of Music degree in Oboe Performance from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. During his time in undergrad, he played trumpet in the IU Soul Revue, the IU Latin Jazz Band, and the IU Marching Hundred. In September 2024, Alex moved to Plymouth, U.K. to start his PhD in Quantum Computer Music which he will complete by September 2028. Since arriving to the South West of England, Alex Alani has become a sought after trumpet player in the genres of jazz, funk, R&B, soul, and blues where he plays almost a show a week with Cornwall-based funk/hip-hop band Freshly Squeezed, or on other nights performances with Russell Sinclair, Vince Lee, and The Urban Party Project. Alex's PhD research on quantum computer music focuses on the applications of quantum computing on the field of audio signal processing, where he generates audio distortion effects from real and simulated quantum computers. Besides Alex's PhD research under the supervision of Dr. Eduardo Miranda within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR), Alex is also a Predoctoral Researcher for the start-up Moth who focus on creative applications of quantum computing.
